BROOKFIELD, Wis. — Brookfield’s mayor Steve Ponto joined Spectrum News 1 to discuss what makes the city a prime spot for family-friendly living.
Ponto pointed to quality public schools that cater to various grade levels as a major factor in fostering a population of over 40,000 residents.
“It has been ranked as the number one school district in the state for the last eight years in a row,” Ponto shared.
The mayor sees a direct correlation between rigorous educational opportunities in 10 different schools and a fast-selling real estate market.
Looking ahead, the city plans to welcome increased foot traffic with new economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses.
A public market will be built in the city, which will replace the former Boston Store at Brookfield Square Mall.
“We’re very hopeful about what will happen with the north end of the mall,” said Ponto. “I think it will bring a number of other really attractive commercial properties.”
The redevelopment project was approved by common council members back in September. Irgens Development Firm is moving forward with the two-story build, which plans to feature local shops and eateries, a bar and indoor and outdoor gathering space.
